Phillips and Raphinha set to follow Marcelo Bielsa in exiting Leeds United
Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha have practically no chance of being Leeds United players next season after Marcelo Bielsa’s sacking, according to Dean Jones.
Speaking to GiveMeSport in the wake of Bielsa’s exit on Sunday, the Eurosport journalist reported that Phillips, 26, and Raphinha, 25, are also very likely to leave Elland Road once the season is over.
Both players have been linked with moves away from West Yorkshire with West Ham widely reportedly to have made moves for them in January.
And Jones expects them to be definitely on the move in the summer transfer window with Bielsa’s exit proving to be a watershed moment for the Whites.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones said: “Sadly for Leeds fans, the Bielsa exit is not the only one they will be sorrowing this year. From what I’m hearing, the chances of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha staying beyond this season are slim-to-none.”
Leeds are falling apart?
It’s not ideal, is it?
First, we’ve seen one of our greatest managers sacked and now it looks like we could see some of the best players we’ve had in a very long time move on too.
Phillips has been a real superstar for Leeds.
He was a fairly average attacking midfielder before Bielsa arrived, no one really thought too much of him.
However, the Argentine has helped sculpt him into one of the best holding midfielders in European football.
Phillips has starred in the Premier League, shone at the European Championships with England and won his national team’s player of the year for 2021.
He could play for almost any team in the Premier League.
As for Raphinha, he’s just amazing, isn’t he?
Losing Phillips and Raphinha would be absolutely gutting.
It’ll definitely happen if we’re relegated but we hope there’s a chance at last one of them can be convinced to stay if Marsch leads us to safety.
In other Leeds United news, Phillips’ agent has spoken out about Bielsa’s sacking at Elland Road.
