Leeds United eye Ruben Amorim as next manager, 36y/o has Sporting Lisbon release clause
Leeds United are big fans of Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim as they weigh up potential Marcelo Bielsa replacements, according to Brazilian news outlet UOL.
Amorim, 36, was named Sporting boss in March 2020 after a brief, but sensational, spell at Braga.
However, he would cost 30million Euros [£25.5million] to release from the Portuguese giants.
If Bielsa does decide to leave Elland Road, it’s easy to see why Amorim would be among the favourites to replace him.
After a three-month stint with Braga B, where he won eight of his 11 games in charge, Amorim was promoted to the senior side where he won 10 out of 13 games and won the ‘Taca de Liga’ before departing to Sporting in March 2020.
At the Lisbon-based outfit, he has worked wonders, winning their first league title in 19 years during his first full campaign in charge.
Sporting have continued their good form into this season as they currently sit joint-top of the Primeira Liga alongside Porto, and Amorim has also led them into the knockout stages of the Champions League, ahead of German giants Borussia Dortmund.
Amorim has lost just seven of his 74 matches as Sporting manager, and his current win percentage throughout his career as a manager stands at 74.5 per cent [Transfermarkt].
He certainly fits the bill as a winner and the ex-Portugal midfielder could be tempted by the lure of Leeds and the Premier League if Bielsa leaves at the end of the season.
