Leeds United expected to sign Georginio Rutter by Wednesday as Sky Sports Germany update emerges

Leeds United are expected to complete the transfer of Hoffenheim striker Georginio Rutter by Wednesday (11 January), according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Whites have been heavily linked with the French forward over the past few days, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that talks between the two parties were “very advanced” and that a fee had been brokered. (Sunday 8 January)

Plettenberg has now announced (Sunday 8 January) that the Whites have agreed on a package worth around £26-35 million as they look to add further attacking options to Jesse Marsch’s squad.

The Sky Sports journalist believes the deal will be completed in the coming days as Hoffenheim look set to budge following the huge offer Leeds have tabled.

He Tweeted: “X News Rutter: Next talks today about his move to LUFC!

“Leeds is is still pushing. Been told that Hoffenheim would release him because of this massive package of around €30-40m transfer fee! Deal could be finalized until Wednesday! Our news is confirmed now”

Filling the gaps

Leeds have done well to catch the rest of the Premier League napping with the inbound transfer of Rutter.

Victor Orta and Marsch will have entered this January transfer window knowing they needed a new left-back and a centre-forward to help propel them away from the relegation zone.

After completing the signing of Austrian international Max Wober, they have partly done the first, and now they look set to bolster the paper-thin centre-forward options with the signing of the highly-touted 20-year-old.

Rutter might not have scored an abundance of goals in the Bundesliga, but he is an out-and-out centre-forward and he should fit into Marsch’s high-press game plan perfectly.

He has the pace to match the energy of fellow forwards Brenden Aaronson and Crysencio Summerville whilst also providing a brilliant alternative to current number nine Patrick Bamford.

Leeds have acted quickly in this window and could reap the rewards as other clubs scramble to make signings later in January.
