Illan Meslier likes £24.6m Leeds United transfer story on Twitter with £67,000-a-week contract agreed

Illan Meslier has liked a tweet about Georginio Rutter’s proposed move to Leeds United as the Yorkshire side close in on the 20-year-old striker.

RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins revealed (via Twitter, 7 January) Rutter is eager to join Leeds with a £3.5million a year contract on the table (£67,000-a-week).

Meslier has since liked (7 January) a reply to Hawkins’ transfer story as Leeds look to wrap up a deal for the France under-21 international.

This feels like a move which is very close to being completed and the fact that Meslier has liked a tweet probably means an announcement is imminent. Fans will be delighted that Leeds have managed to get a deal done early on in the window.

The January market can be notoriously difficult to navigate at times but it appears the board have done their due diligence ahead of the window opening to ensure they were at the front of the queue to land the promising attacker. Rutter is a player who can play across the whole of the front line, with Jesse Marsch eager to add a versatile forward to his ranks.

The American could also be looking to add an out-and-out number nine to his current options, with Patrick Bamford currently a shadow of the player he once was and yet again struggling with injury issues.

It’s been an excellent start to the window, but there’s still plenty of work to be done if Leeds want to ensure they avoid another relegation dogfight come the end of the season.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this in-form Eredivise player who’d cost over £15million.
