Leeds United director Victor Orta offered chance of reunion with Marcelo Bielsa at Mexico national team

Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has reportedly been handed a proposal to take over as the director of the Mexico national team.

According to ESPN journalist David Faitelson, former Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa is also under consideration to be the head coach.

This would mean that Orta would be part of the setup which is above the coaching staff – a similar sort of hierarchy the two had at Elland Road.

Via Twitter, Faitelson wrote, “The Spanish Víctor Orta, current soccer director of Leeds United, was a proposal from Grupo Pachuca as director of national teams. He would be above Marcelo Bielsa.”

Way out?

It remains to be seen what Orta ends up doing as it would be a good opportunity for him to work for their national team ahead of their home World Cup.

He would also have more power than he does at Elland Road and Bielsa is likely to be open to working with him, given their fruitful relationship at Leeds.

However, if he does want to continue at the club level and perhaps be part of teams challenging for trophies, then it makes sense to stay at Elland Road.

He was linked with Chelsea job too not a while back and such opportunities will present themselves if he continues to do good work.

This window, he has brought in two important signings, including one that broke the club record and there are chances of a third major signing as well.

It remains to be seen what Orta decides to do but we do not think that he would want to jump ship in the middle of the season.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites appear to be on the cusp of another January signing as a player’s agent jets into the United Kingdom to conduct final transfer talks.
