Leeds United defender Max Wober plans for life after retirement as he makes coaching admission
Leeds United defender Max Wober admits that he may not even be involved in sports after retirement as he is keeping his options open.
In an interview with Austrian outlet La Ola, the January signing even spoke about the importance of having a Master’s degree while he also made an admission about getting into coaching as well.
The Austrian is still only 25 and does have a while to go in his career, but plans for when he hangs up his boots have already begun.
He said, “As of now, many of my skills are bundled there (in football), but who knows, maybe in ten years I’ll be interested in something completely different. There’s also the idea of working in a company that has little to do with sport. With this MBA, I’ll being able to focus on what interests me and what I enjoy when the time comes.”
“Or I’ll become a coach after all.
“But then as a footballer, it is certainly not commonplace to already have an MBA.”
Jack of all trades
Wober comes across as somebody who’s keeping all of his options open and that’s interesting for players nowhere close to their retirement.
Usually, players in their mid-20s discuss about their aspirations of playing in the Champions League and winning titles every season.
It’s good to see Wober having a completely different perspective and it will be very interesting to see where he does end up when he hangs his boots.
As of now, surely he’ll be focused on doing the best he can at Leeds and for this season, the target is definitely going to be survival.
He was signed for what initially looked like playing as a left-back, but his versatility has seen him do a good job in central defence as well.
Hopefully, he can continue improving and reach the targets that Javi Gracia sets for the team this season.
