Leeds United defender Max Wober admits to missing Jesse Marsch at Elland Road

Leeds United defender Max Wober has admitted that he misses Jesse Marsch as he was the one who brought him to Elland Road.

In an interview with Sky Sports Austria [7 March], the 25-year-old has also gone on to discuss how competitive life in the Premier League is.

Unlike at RB Salzburg, he’s not often expected to be the side that’s likely to win the game and that poses its own set of challenges.

He said, “Of course, I miss Jesse. I made this move because he was keen to bring me to Leeds. But that’s the business of football, everything can change. If the successes don’t come, the coach is the first to vacate the pitch.

“There’s a difference to Salzburg, where you know that you can take the three points in at least 90% of the games.

“Now every weekend is a full fighting game, anyone can win against anyone. You can tell that there is insane pressure and that the club’s existence is at stake. It’s definitely the toughest league I’ve played in so far. Every game feels like a Champions League game in terms of intensity. You have to be alert every second, otherwise, it will rattle at the back.”

Change was needed

We can understand why Wober will be sympathetic to Marsch as the American was the one who brought him to the club.

Before joining, the Austrian would’ve spoken to the American and could’ve made up his mind based on the conversations and promises he gave him.

However, he surely will not have followed how the season unravelled after a decent summer window despite the losses of two key players.

Even after backing him with a club-record signing and two quality first-team players, Marsch just failed to get the job done.

It was important to sack him and bring in someone with fresh ideas and in Javi Gracia, they’ve got someone who’s done it in the Premier League already.

Hopefully, it pays off until the end of the season and they then bring in someone who can be a good long-term fit for the club.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
