Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell out for season as he undergoes surgery

Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell will reportedly not be featuring again this season after he has undergone surgery.

According to SLP sports editor Richard Cawley, the Millwall loanee had to have surgery for a damaged eye socket and will not recover in time to feature again this season.

The 20-year-old left Elland Road in July on loan to get regular game time in the Championship but now has had his campaign cut short.

Cawley wrote on Twitter, “Charlie Cresswell has had eye surgery. Millwall loanee will miss the rest of the season.”

Wishing him well

It’s never easy to undergo surgery and we’re hoping he recovers well and comes back stronger next season.

The images of the injury looked pretty horrific and it’s a good thing that it did not affect his eyesight or cause any long-term damage to his eyes.

Cresswell did his bit on loan and became a regular feature in the Lions’ first team and that was precisely the point of sending him out on loan.

He may have done enough to warrant being in contention for the first team next season as there’s a good chance that Liam Cooper will leave the club.

Cresswell will certainly want assurances over playing time if he is to commit his future to the club and it’s on the manager to make that decision in pre season.

Right now, he will not be thinking about next season and will just focus on his recovery and the advice to him surely will be to take things easy.
