Leeds United could now drop Diego Llorente v Nottingham Forest - Phil Hay
Leeds United could finally turn back to Liam Cooper in their next Premier League outing against Nottingham Forest, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist has reported that Jesse Marsch believes his ideal partnership is the Scotsman alongside Robin Koch when everyone is fully fit.
Llorente made yet another catalogue of errors in the 5-2 defeat against Brentford and could be set to lose the spot he has kept for every game so far this season.
Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, Hay shared what the new look part of the side could look like running out next at Elland Road.
“Liam Cooper was on the bench on Saturday,” he wrote.
“And having hinted beforehand that in his mind’s eye, Cooper and Robin Koch were his ideal centre-back pairing, Marsch might find himself turning that way before Nottingham Forest tip up at Elland Road next Monday.”
As far as this one goes, it looks quite straightforward for Jesse Marsch.
The bench at Brentford was one of the few positives, with the experience of Cooper and Luke Ayling returning to full force after being dramatically missed.
Leeds need their skipper right now, with the lack of leadership at the back actually frightening to watch at times right now, not only against Brentford.
The ball for Anthony Gordon to score against Everton went straight through Llorente, and that happened again and more than once in the Brentford defeat.
Koch has been hailed by Marsch thoroughly already this season, and although Llorente has done well at times, the time appears right for this change to be made.
The upcoming clash with Forest has quickly become a game where a win feels like it is desperately needed, let’s hope changes can be made to make that happen.
