Leeds United could fight Borussia Dortmund to sign RB Salzburg defender Rasmus Kristensen – Phil Hay

Leeds United are closely following RB Salzburg defender Rasmus Kristensen this summer, according to Phil Hay on Tuesday morning [31 May].

The Athletic journalist has reported that the Danish right-back is expected to follow Brenden Aaronson out of the exit at the Austrian champions, and could cost up to £10million.

It is shared that Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are also keen on Kristensen, who worked under Jesse Marsch for two years during their time in Salzburg together.

Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, Hay shared the latest on the hunt for a new right-back with Brentford also said to be in the running as things stand.

“Leeds are short of alternatives and The Athletic understands that the club have been following Rasmus Kristensen, another RB Salzburg asset,” he wrote.

“The pair [Marsch and Kristensen] worked together for two years and Kristensen, like Aaronson, is widely expected to move on from Salzburg before the start of the 2022-23 term. Borussia Dortmund are keen on him and Brentford have been linked with him in the past fortnight.

“Kristensen, who would cost about £10m, is on international duty ahead of Denmark’s Nations League games.”

Crisis.

Leeds have got a real problem at right-back and it is clear to see for everyone.

Luke Ayling was suspended for the final three games of last season, underwent surgery on an ongoing injury and will now be out until Autumn, missing the start of the next campaign.

The same can be said for Stuart Dallas, who will also be out until the end of the year, if not longer after his horror injury picked up against Manchester City.

Robin Koch filled that role well in the final games of the campaign, but Marsch will know he needs more of a specialist, and that is what Kristensen can bring.

The 24-year-old lifted the Austrian Bundesliga with Aaronson last season, and offers great attacking output down the right-hand side, involved in 11 goals from his 29 appearances.

As he starts to break onto the scene of an impressive Denmark side, now would be the time for Leeds to strike while the iron is hot and £10million looks to be a real bargain.

Get it done.
