Leeds United consider Lee Bowyer as Javi Gracia sack update emerges

Leeds United are considering Lee Bowyer as a potential replacement for Javi Gracia as the Spaniard’s tenure at Elland Road remains in serious doubt, according to the Daily Mail.

It’s believed Andrea Radrizzani is seriously considering making a change after a terrible run of form under the Spaniard in recent weeks.

The Mail claim (1 May) that sources close to the club have revealed that Bowyer is being talked about, with the 46-year-old currently out of work.

It’s understood the former Birmingham boss could emerge as a short-term option to galvanise the fanbase during the last four matches.

Desperation

The fact this looks like the best move at present demonstrates just how much of a mess the club is in at present. Gracia’s position is now untenable, the Whites are on a collision course with the Championship, the fanbase is alienated, and the players have downed tools.

It’s a shambolic state of affairs. The focus has to be on rescuing the season in the final fixtures and if that means hiring Bowyer, then so be it. The former Leeds midfielder is certainly a firey character who will let the players know a few home truths if he is given the job on an extremely short-term basis.

He’s had success in the past at Charlton Athletic and could provide the immediate boost to steer Leeds clear of the relegation zone. This weekend’s clash against Manchester City should be written off, but the following games against Newcastle and West Ham United are winnable. One last gamble in what has been a disastrous season is certainly on the cards.
