Leeds United confirm that Laurens De Bock has left the club on loan

Leeds United have confirmed on their official website that Laurens De Bock has left Elland Road to join Zulte Waregem on loan.

This move will effectively end his Leeds career as his contract expires in June 2022, and LeedsLive claim that the two clubs reached an agreement for the 28-year-old to start pre-season with the Belgian side after spending last season on loan there.

De Bock was signed in January 2018 by the Whites and didn’t make a single appearance under Marcelo Bielsa, suggesting that the Argentine didn’t rate him and with this loan move, he doesn’t have to worry about De Bock anymore.

Sensible move for both parties

This was a deal that needed to happen as it allows the Whites to shift a player off the wage bill who was not contributing to the first team.

However, it is also a good deal for the player as he can play some more regular first-team football and perhaps earn himself a move to Waregem at the end of the season when his contract at Elland Road expires.

Considering just how little De Bock played under Bielsa, this is not a move that will probably even register with many Whites fans.

Still, at 28, the club probably needed to find either a temporary or permanent location for De Bock.

There is no question that De Bock was a pointless signing by the Whites, and the fact he is finally leaving can only be considered a good thing for both Leeds and the player himself, who can hopefully look forward to more game time.
