Charlie Austin shuts down Adrian Durham after Kalvin Phillips claim
Adrian Durham made the embarrassing claim that England should drop Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips against Denmark this evening.
The Yorkshire Pirlo has started every single game for the Three Lions and has the chance to fire them into a major tournament final for the first time in over 50 years at Wembley.
Despite that, Durham insisted that Declan Rice and Mason Mount should start instead, something that Charlie Austin disagreed with.
Austin insisted that Phillips brings energy to the England midfield, something that can’t be dropped.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, the QPR forward sent a message to the Leeds faithful ahead of next season.
“Can’t agree with you this time,” he said.
“Can’t drop Kalvin Phillips the energy he puts into the team we need him out there as well as Mount. Kalvin Phillips, I was told about for a few years how good he was.
“I just thought it was another Leeds player he has got carried away with, but my god was I wrong! Leeds fans you will love to see him live next season in the Premier League.”
We love this message from Austin, but we have been watching Phillips do this and dominate for many years now at Elland Road.
Marcelo Bielsa transformed him, and his performances we saw every single week earned him the England call-up.
Durham is just looking for something controversial as always, as it will get him the most responses, but this time he was shut down perfectly.
Austin has played against Phillips, and he will know more than most just how dominant and physical he can be – something Southgate loves about him.
We expect to see Phillips starting tomorrow, and in the final if we get there – something which will be magical for Leeds if it happens – fingers crossed.
