Leeds United can find their new Mateusz Klich quickly by signing Twente star Ramiz Zerrouki
Leeds United said goodbye to Mateusz Klich after the 2-2 Premier League draw to West Ham – and a replacement for the 32-year-old could have already emerged.
Klich was signed from FC Twente in the summer of 2017 and another one of the Dutch side’s players has been tipped to make the move to Elland Road. Dutch journalist and current sports analyst Jan van Halst has suggested Twente midfielder Ramiz Zerrouki could well be a good fit for the Whites.
“He is good enough to succeed in England. He suits clubs such as Leeds United and Southampton,” said Van Halst (quoted by NOS, 14 January).
“Underdogs who have a good period now and then and want to fight their way out of the bottom regions. With such teams, he would be able to play with his footballing ability and tactical insight can be of added value.”
The 24-year-old impressed in Twente’s 0-0 draw against Ajax with Whoscored rating the midfielder’s performance 7.1, which was the third highest out of any of their players. Furthermore, he displayed his ability to start attacks with five key passes made.
Jesse Marsch was reluctant to let Klich leave Elland Road and is now definitely on the look-out for a replacment. Morocco’s World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi is a target, with The Athletic’s Phil Hay suggesting he’s an option which has been talked about by the club.
Tyler Adams and Marc Roca are the American’s go-to midfiedlers, but there is a requisition for another more forward-thinking player to come through the door.
Perhaps giving FC Twente another call could well be something the board consider.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have placed a £2.2m a year contract offer on the table for this World Cup star.
