Leeds United boost in Aina race as Torino replacement has medical
Leeds United could be one step closer to securing the signing of defender Ola Aina as the Nigerian’s replacement at Torino has had his medical.
According to Tutto Mercato, Mohamed Fares was in Turin yesterday evening to undergo his medical examination ahead of his move to Torino from Serie A rivals Lazio.
The same publication linked Aina with a move to Elland Road last week but the stumbling block in the move was if Torino couldn’t sign a replacement.
Everyone was waiting for Genoa to release Fares from his loan spell in order for him to complete the permanent switch to Turin, opening the door for Aina to leave the club.
As things stand, Leeds United are the most likely to pursue the Nigerian international but they need to act fast to make sure no one else enters the race.
The former Chelsea youth prospect spent last season on loan at Fulham and looked to be one of their better players as they suffered relegation from the Premier League.
Now his availability has become known, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we saw more top clubs express their interest in Aina which could jeopardise Marcelo Bielsa’splans.
His utility in defence is another arrow to his quiver that will make him desirable to a number of clubs as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt football globally.
Leeds still hold a big head start over any other Premier League club that may become tempted by Aina which should see them over the line if they are able to come to agreeable terms with Torino and the player himself.
In other Leeds United news, reports suggest that the Whites want to sign this striker who is close to leaving his current club.
