Muriqi stops following Lazio on social media with Leeds United in pursuit of deal

Vedat Muriqi is on the verge of quitting Lazio amid interest from Leeds United and two clubs in the Championship, according to La Lazio Siamo Noi.

The Italian football website reports that West Brom have joined Leeds and Hull in the race to sign the 27-year-old centre-forward.

It is understood that Muriqi looks destined to quit Lazio this month after he stopped following the Serie A club on his social media channels.

La Lazio Siamo Noi adds that Muriqi’s relationship with Lazio has now “reduced to a minimum” and “separation is around the corner”.

Worthwhile?

Leeds do need to add to their centre-forward options this month but they also need to strengthen other areas of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

Bielsa’s midfield needs reinforcements before anywhere else while the two full-back slots could also do with another new face being added to them.

Up front, Bielsa is able to call upon Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo, Tyler Roberts, Daniel James and Joe Gelhardt. And while some of those options struggle to wow Leeds fans, neither should Muriqi.

Since joining Lazio from Fenerbahce in September 2020, the Kosovo international has scored just two goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.

He was prolific during his time in Turkey but that league is far weaker than Serie A – and the Premier League, for that matter – so it would be fair to assume that he’d struggle at Leeds.

Sure, he’d be an extra body and an extra option for Leeds while also applying competition to Bamford for the second half of this season and beyond.

But we just cannot shake the idea that he would be a total and utter flop if he joined Leeds this month and the fact that Championship clubs are eyeing him up as well raises a red flag.

Leeds, leave this one. It’s not worth it.

In other Leeds United news, this senior star seems more likely to exit Leeds this month amid a new transfer report.
