Leeds United blow clubs out of water to sign Marc Roca as Victor Orta swoops for transfer

Leeds United have blown many clubs out of the water to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca this summer, according to Graeme Bailey.

The reliable journalist reported that La Liga sides Villareal, Real Betis and Sevilla were all keen, but the Whites were prepared to pay more to get a deal over the line.

Victor Orta is said to have swooped to seal the transfer, with the medical widely reported to have taken place today before the deal is announced.

Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast for 90min, Bailey shared the insight into the latest ongoing transfer business at Elland Road.

“There has been quite a lot of interest in Roca,” he said. “There’s quite a lot of Spanish clubs looking at taking him back to La Liga, the former Espanyol midfielder.

“Villareal, Betis, Sevilla were all keen, they were only willing to do business at about €9million [£7.7m], Leeds have come in slightly higher than that around £11-12million.

“Victor Orta, Leeds’ Sporting Director, very established now in that role, he swooped in to try and get this deal done, and this deal is close.”

Orta and the Leeds fans have enjoyed a fractured relationship over the years, but he is certainly trying his hardest to make up for that this summer.

The Spaniard has beaten some strong competition for numerous signings already.

Sevilla, Villareal and Betis are all competing for European football regularly, yet Leeds were able to beat them all with relative ease and seal this transfer this week.

Even Rasmus Kristensen was heavily reported to be on the verge of joining Borussia Dortmund before the Whites and Orta swooped in at the last minute to win the race.

Roca could be announced in a matter of hours now after travelling to the United Kingdom overnight, and it would make it the perfect start to the summer at Elland Road.

Jesse Marsch would have wanted big reinforcements, and that is exactly what he is getting, but he will know that there is more needed – bring it on.
