Leeds United beat Roma, Fiorentina and Sassuolo to sign Willy Gnonto in summer transfer window
Leeds United reportedly had to see off interest from a number of Italian clubs in order to secure the services of Willy Gnonto in the summer.
According to Calciomercato [27 March], Roma, last season’s UEFA Europa Conference League winners, were among the suitors that included Sassuolo, Torino and Fiorentina as well.
Initially, the asking price for the Italy forward was higher which is what saw many of the interested clubs distancing themselves from the deal and Leeds ended up taking advantage of the situation.

Massive coup
Leeds managed to secure his services for under £4million excluding bonuses and in hindsight, he’s proven to be worth the outlay after his first month itself.
He has been a game changer for the Whites in the final third and has adapted so quickly to life in the Premier League and has taken Elland Road by storm.
Nobody among the fanbase would’ve expected him to have this sort of an impact as quickly as he’s had but that’s a testament to how hard-working the 19-year-old has been.
Signed because Leeds failed to bring in a senior striker, the expectations were that he would perhaps be leading the line.

However, he’s found his niche playing on the left flank and cutting inside and defenders surely would not be liking to play against him.
Leeds will be hoping that the injury he’s sustained on international duty is not too serious as he’s an important part of their plans.
In other Leeds United, the Whites are now in pole position to seal their first signing under Javi Gracia despite interest from a Premier League rival.
