Leeds United battle Tottenham to sign Alex Scott

Leeds United and Tottenham are reportedly weighing up a summer move for Bristol City midfielder, Alex Scott.

According to The Mirror (23 April; printed edition – page 9), the Whites have scouted the young midfielder during the Robins’ game against Stoke City on Easter Friday.

The 18-year-old is a highly-rated midfielder who could be available for around £10million.

Top talent

The young midfielder has impressed at Ashton Gate where he made 36 appearances this season.

He is a versatile young talent who has dazzled in the attacking midfield role behind the striker.

However, he has showcased his versatility by playing in the wing-back role as well, and Leeds scouts may have been impressed with what they have seen.

Scott has a long-term contract at the club and the Whites will need to pay a handsome fee to secure his signature.

If he is ready for the Premier League remains to be seen. The Whites need to bolster their midfield this summer, and Jesse Marsch should look to add someone who can make an immediate impact.

Scott looks like a project for the future. He is far from being the finished product, but the talent is obviously there.

Given a choice between Spurs and Leeds, the youngster should opt for the latter considering the track record of the club in promoting the youth.

Leeds will travel to Selhurst Park on Monday night to face Crystal Palace where Marsch will be looking to extend the unbeaten run to five games.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has dropped early hints on the likely lineup for the trip to Selhurst Park.
