Leeds United backed to sign Lewis O’Brien before potentially selling Nottm Forest flop in summer

Carlton Palmer thinks Leeds United could sign Lewis O’Brien in January and then sell him in the summer if they gain Premier League promotion.

The Nottingham Forest midfielder has recently been linked with a move to Elland Road [TEAMtalk, 30 October] to help bolster their midfield ranks amid their recent injury crisis.

Speaking to Football League World (31 October), Palmer shared his verdict on Leeds’ interest in O’Brien.

“The problem that they [Leeds] have obviously is he struggled to make any kind of impact in the Premier League with Nottingham Forest,” he said.

“But the priority is for Leeds to get back to the Premier League. “Given his age, it wouldn’t be a problem for Leeds United to move him on should they get promoted to the Premier League.

“It’s going to be a chase for Lewis O’Brien’s signature, there are a lot of clubs who are interested in his signature, but I think it would be a good solution for Leeds United given the injury crisis they have at the moment.”

Leeds United must make a move for Lewis O’Brien

Leeds may have already added Josuha Guilavogui to their ranks after the injuries suffered by Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu but it still feels like they could do with at least one more player to cover their midfield.

The Championship season is long and gruelling and while Daniel Farke already has a decent amount of depth within his ranks, it wouldn’t hurt anything for him to add the former Huddersfield Town man to his squad.

The midfielder is currently playing for LAFC and is on loan to the MLS side until December. This means that, upon his return to Forest, there could be a perfect chance for Leeds to swoop in and sign him.

His form over the last couple of seasons may have left a lot to be desired but from his previous stints in the second tier, it’s evident that he’d have the ability to help the Whites’ promotion charge this season.

These are all just rumours at the moment of course but on paper, a move for O’Brien seems to be a rather smart move for the West Yorkshire outfit to sanction.
