Leeds United attacker Joe Gelhardt could be handed start v Wolves if Rodrigo misses out

Leeds United could turn to Joe Gelhardt against Wolves to replace Rodrigo, who remains an injury doubt for the game.

According to Phil Hay, while the Spaniard has not completely been ruled out of the game, he is not 100 per cent guaranteed to start.

Even if he’s not feeling fully fit, there’s a good chance that Jesse Marsch puts him on the bench and brings him on in the second half if things don’t go as per plan.

In the 2-1 win over Norwich, Marsch started both Rodrigo and Bamford and neither finished the full 90 minutes.

While Bamford was still returning to full fitness, the Spaniard was withdrawn due to an injury concern.

Joe Gelhardt, 19, was the man to come off the bench to win the game for Leeds and if the man in charge is picking his players on merit, he’s got to be starting the game against Wolves.

Bruno Lage’s team are very organised and methodical and would be all over the place if Gelhardt and Bamford can both wreak havoc with their runs in and around the penalty area.

Both players have been lauded for their movement and it will be interesting to see Gelhardt playing in the secondary striker role.

Whether or not Marsch feels that the youngster is ready for a start remains to be seen.

One must remember that it was the 19-year-old who came off the bench in the reverse fixture to win a late penalty for the Whites.

In other Leeds United news, Steve McManaman claims that a Whites man has already lost the trust of fans and some players after what happened last week.
