Leeds United approach Brendan Rodgers in manager news, Celtic job set to be accepted

Leeds United made an official approach to make Brendan Rodgers their new manager but he is set to accept the Celtic job instead, according to 90min.

Rodgers, 50, is currently unattached after leaving Leicester City towards the end of last season, where he won the FA Cup and the Community Shield during his four-year stint at the helm.

Despite the Whites making an approach to make Rodgers their new manager, he had no interest of working in the Championship at this point in his career.

Celtic are now finalising a deal to bring Rodgers back north of the border after Ange Postecolgou left the Scottish Champions to join Spurs.

Leeds have been searching for a successor for Sam Allardyce ever since their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.

Shame

Looking to hire Rodgers was always going to be a longshot when considering the honours he has won over the last few years at Celtic and Leicester City.

The 50-year-old has built a reputation on his brilliant tactical brain during stints at Liverpool, the Hoops and most recently at the King Power Stadium.

And although he is yet to officially accept the job in Scotland, everything seems to be pointing towards him not taking the vacancy at Elland Road.

If Rodgers isn’t interested in managing Leeds next season, the club should quickly move on in their process and look at alternative targets.

The longer the wait for a new boss goes on, the more trouble the club could be slipping into. Without a manager at the helm, Leeds won’t know who they want to sell this summer and the type of players they want to be targeting in the transfer window.

The Whites need to wrap this up as soon as possible, and Rodgers clearly has eyes firmly on another job.

In other Leeds news, one player’s exit has been delayed by a “few weeks” due to financial issues.
