Leeds United and Aston Villa open talks to sign West Ham United player Sonny Perkins

Leeds United have opened talks to sign West Ham United starlet Sonny Perkins, according to Fabrizio Romano on Thursday afternoon [09 June].

The reliable journalist has shared the update with Aston Villa also opening talks as they get set to battle the Whites for the signing this summer.

Perkins is said to have been demanding high wages at the London Stadium, and is set to move on after years with the Hammers through their academy.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Romano shared the news as the Whites push for another new signing this week at Elland Road.

“Leeds and Aston Villa have opened talks to sign promising forward Sonny Perkins,” he wrote.

“Perkins has made 3 appearances for West Ham. Both clubs want to sign him.”

Leeds are always proactive as they look to strengthen their academy every year.

Victor Orta has been hard at work at bringing in new signings for the first team, but that hasn’t stopped him from putting his foot on the pedal for the under-23s at Thorp Arch.

Perkins looks set to leave West Ham in the same year he was handed his first-team European debut by David Moyes in the Europa League.

That clearly shows he had a future at the club, but Leeds or Aston Villa look set to swoop in and make sure that they snatch him away with what could be a more lucrative offer.

It has been a busy start to the summer for Leeds, who are making their moves before the window actually officially opens, but that is a brilliant show of intent from the board.

This is certainly one to watch moving into the next week, with Villa surely set to push the Whites all the way to announce this new signing.
