Leeds United among 18 Premier League teams to vote in favour of rule change

Leeds United are one of 18 Premier League sides to vote in favour of allowing temporary concussion substitutes with the IFAB urged to implement it.

According to the Daily Mail [3 March], West Ham and Aston Villa were the only two teams to vote against the trial of this protocol.

A letter will now be sent to the governing body IFAB after they refused for a trial to take place in the Premier League in January.

Good move

Ex pros often suffer from dementia and that’s due to the lack of scientific advances back when they were playing week in and week out.

Now, there is so much research and treatments available for concussions and other head injuries and that’s only safeguarding the interests of the players.

It’s good to see Leeds on the right side of this issue and the fact that 17 other teams also see things the same way means that the chances for it happening are now higher.

Hopefully, the IFAB now sees things differently and tries implementing this which we see becoming the norm in the coming seasons.

An extra concussion substitute is already allowed and a temporary sub will only make things better as a player can then receive full treatment and then return to the pitch.

This will ensure that the team will not play with 10 men and thus there will be no need to rush anyone back to the pitch for the fear of conceding a goal.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
