Leeds United 'alarm bells' ringing for Jesse Marsch job after draw v Cardiff City

Leeds United’s alarm bells would have been ringing for Jesse Marsch’s future had they lost their FA Cup tie to Cardiff, according to Leon Osman.

The Whites fought back from 2-0 down in Wales against the Championship outfit to snatch a replay at the death thanks to Sonny Perkins’ first senior goal in stoppage time.

Leeds are now seven games without a win in all competitions, but Osman told BBC Match of the Day (8 January) that Marsch will be hopeful of getting a reaction from his team after saving himself a lot of questions about his future.

“They looked scared Leeds, in the first half,” he said. “Yes they made changes, but they were below par today.

“They were winless in six games in all competitions, not won since the 5th of November. So if they would have lost that game then the alarm bells really would have been sounding.

“But you see the fight back, the energy and Rodrigo’s impact on the game, so I’m sure they’ll be hoping they can respond after this.”

Phew

Leeds actually started the game really brightly but when they didn’t find the back of the net after sustained pressure, they seemed to fall into a lull and Cardiff took full advantage.

We gave ourselves a huge mountain to climb in the second half, but we should be encouraged by the fact that we were able to show our quality and turn it around with an impressive comeback.

As for Marsch, there are still plenty of question marks about whether or not he is the right man for the job, and they’re justified.

We constantly go on these winless runs, and while the excitement is still there and performances seem to go on a rollercoaster which is what ultimately leads to our downfall a lot of the time.

We need to find consistency and improve our performance, but Marsch has certainly bought himself some extra time in the job by avoiding defeat and ending that game on a high with his decision to bring in youth paying off.
