Leeds United agree Wilfried Gnonto transfer, work permit depending after deadline

Leeds United are finally set to sign a new striker today with FC Zurich attacker Wilfried Gnonto set to make his move, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The reliable journalist has reported that a deal is almost done with the wait only now for a work permit ahead of the official announcement which could come at any moment.

The striker has already agreed personal terms as Leeds bounce back from the disappointment of Bamba Dieng turning down the move earlier in the day.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Romano shared the huge deadline-busting news that a new striker should finally arrive at Elland Road.

“Leeds are set to sign Willy Gnonto from FC Zurich,” he wrote. “Deal almost done, just waiting for work permit then it will be the final signing. Here we go.

“Italian talent has agreed personal terms with Leeds.”

Here we go.

We may have had to wait all day, but a move has finally looked to have been completed.

Of course, we won’t celebrate until that work permit comes through as we all know that Leeds and transfers cannot be celebrated until they are officially announced.

Gnonto has been linked with the move to Elland Road all summer but was seen as more of a project for the future, but that may have now been accelerated.

If the young striker is good enough to play for Italy, he is good enough to make a difference in the Premier League after finding the back of the net against Germany.

Victor Orta has had to fall back on this one, let’s be honest, although there will still be some excitement given that another number nine is now on the verge of joining the squad.

All eyes are on Elland Road, as the line goes – don’t go to bed just yet.

In other Leeds United news, Kaveh Solhekol has reported that another striker transfer was on the cards before 11 pm
