Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips unlikely to be regular starter at Manchester City
Leeds United is reportedly unlikely to be a regular at Manchester City if he chooses to join them this summer.
According to the BBC, he is expected to play second-fiddle to Spain international Rodri, who has established himself as Pep Guardiola’s first-choice holding midfielder.
Times journalist Jacques Talbot told Give Me Sport that the Citizens have not yet bid for him but are expected to do so very soon.
Worth it?
Phillips is a guaranteed starter at Leeds and due to his performances for them, he got picked in England’s squad and shone at Euro 2020.
Gareth Southgate does not only pick players from the traditional big six in the Premier League so the Englishman could afford not moving this summer.
With the World Cup being later this year, Phillips would certainly need to play regularly if he is to make the squad, let alone be a regular for the Three Lions in Qatar.
Sure, he will be challenging for the biggest trophies every season, but will he enjoy doing so from the bench?
These certainly are questions that he will be asking himself over the coming days as City prepare to make an official bid for him.
With Leeds expected to accept it if it meets their valuation, they will then leave the choice to Phillips and he could still fancy a move to PSG as they’re guaranteed to hand him a start berth, unlike the Citizens.
