Leeds United ace Helder Costa may want to leave club, big-money wage exit may help reshape squad

Helder Costa may want to exit Leeds United this summer after falling out of favour at Elland Road, according to the Daily Mail on Saturday morning [04 June].

The newspaper have reported on their website that the outcast leaving could free up reasonable wages to help Victor Orta improve the squad with transfers.

Costa spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Valencia which has been labelled as “miserable” after failing to catch the eye at the Spanish club.

Writing for the Daily Mail on Saturday morning [04 June], Jacob Ranson reported that it could be used to help Orta in the current window.

“The Portuguese winger could be heading for the exit door or may well want to after falling out of favour at Leeds and then enduring a miserable loan spell at Valencia,” they wrote.

“Although, if Leeds want to improve their squad they will have to shift players on reasonable wages like Costa this summer.”

Time to go.

Orta and Costa himself will know that this move to Elland Road simply hasn’t worked out.

Moving the Angolan international on from the club could free up some funds and possibly even open the door to another permanent signing that may not have been possible beforehand.

Graham Smyth has reported that Costa is welcome back at Thorp Arch by Jesse Marsch, but that Jorge Mendes is looking for another move whether permanent or on loan.

Costa’s preference wasn’t shared there, but it appears as though he could be open to another move.

Super Deportes has reported that Valencia would need to match his £48,000-a-week wages in order to make his move permanent, something they haven’t done.

That is just below £2.5million-a-year that Leeds could be saving should he leave permanently, and this one needs to be sorted as soon as possible.

We can surely expect another new signing with that money.
