Leeds try to finalise Junior Firpo deal, move completed Monday or Tuesday
Leeds United are working hard to finalise the transfer of Barcelona defender Junior Firpo on Saturday.
Spanish journalist Gerard Romero has been close to the story all week and has reported that the Whites will pay the fee in two instalments.
It is widely suggested that it will cost just under £13million for the left-back, with Barcelona desperate to raise funds.
Sharing a major update on his Twitter account, Romero shared when the deal should be announced by the Whites next week.
“Barça and Leeds continue to close the Junior transfer today,” he wrote.
“Leeds will pay in two instalments the final price that is closed. For those periods, Barça wants to raise the price a little. If all goes well, official Monday or Tuesday.”
Get it done.
It appears as though everything is going in the right direction, but the longer this drags on, the more fearful we get.
We have seen moves collapse in the past, just at Michael Cuisance last summer, and the longer we negotiate, the more Barcelona could get frustrated.
It looks as though it’s the Spaniards who are holding this up, as they likely want more money upfront to help with their crippling debt.
Andrea Radrizzani is smart with his money and will be looking to get the best deal for both him and the club financially.
This will get done, and thankfully, it is at the perfect time.
Firpo should then have more than a month of pre-season with Marcelo Bielsa’s gruelling methods before making his debut in the biggest game possible.
Manchester United, Old Trafford – it doesn’t get much better than that.
