Leeds to step up attempt to land midfielder this week - Dharmesh Sheth

Leeds United will look to step up their plans to bring a midfielder to Elland Road this week, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports reporter shared the update live on-air today (17 January), and it was relayed on their transfer centre on the website.

The Whites are currently without Kalvin Phillips, while Adam Forshaw was withdrawn from action during Sunday’s 3-2 victory over West Ham at the London Stadium.

Dharmesh said: “Leeds United expected to step up their attempt to sign a new midfielder this week.”

Very important

Marcelo Bielsa saw two of his players pick up knocks at the weekend, and the injury situation just does not show signs of slowing down anytime soon.

While the Sky Sports man did not mention any name, the Sunday Mirror did report that Leeds are set to snap up Standard Liege midfielder Nicolas Raskin this week amid their injury crisis, with the 20-year-old Belgian identified as an injury cover for Phillips.

However, The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth poured cold water on the reports after getting in touch with the player’s representatives and the club.

Nevertheless, it appears that the club are indeed working on something in the position.

Director of Football Victor Orta is keeping his cards very close to his chest, but with just two weeks left in the January transfer window, there is not a lot of time left for the Whites to get something done.

Midfield is a place where they could do with more quality in depth, but fans would love to see at least one forward brought in.
