Leeds set to sign Standard Liege midfielder Nicolas Raskin this week

Leeds United are set to snap up Standard Liege midfielder Nicolas Raskin this week amid their injury crisis, according to Sunday Mirror.

The print edition of the newspaper (page 73, 16 January) reports that the Elland Road outfit have agreed a £6million fee for the 20-year-old.

Marcelo Bielsa wants a cover for Kalvin Phillips, and the Argentine has identified Raskin as his man, with the Belgium under-21 international now expected to join the Whites in the coming days.

Huge move

La Tribune’s Stephan Streker claimed in September 2020 that the youngster “has incredible nerve, he is very sure of himself, but without arrogance”, and it appears those qualities have attracted Leeds.

Phillips is not expected to return to first-team action until March, and bringing in another player in his position before the end of the January transfer window is very important as the west Yorkshire outfit looks to move further away from the relegation zone.

Raskin has featured in 18 Jupiler Pro League games in 2021-22, weighing in with two assists after scoring twice and assisting four times in 32 games across the league and Champions League last term.

He is highly regarded as one of the best young central midfielders in the Belgian top-flight, and Leeds could be snapping up a real gem should a move indeed work out.

They need to make quality additions to their squad this window, and a move for Raskin could become one of Victor Orta’s transfer masterstroke moves.
