Leeds to return with January bid for Napoli ace Eljif Elmas

Leeds United will return for the signature of Napoli ace Eljif Elmas in January, according to Turkish journalist Talha Arslan.

The Elland Road outfit attempted to land the North Macedonia international attacker, 22, in the summer, but a move could not work out.

With their need to strengthen their squad for the second half of 2021-22 now evident, it appears that the Whites have plans to get Elmas, and Arslan took to his personal Twitter account to provide the latest on him on Tuesday (21 December) night.

He said: “Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund, who made a transfer attempt for Eljif Elmas last summer, will send their offers to Napoli with an astronomical price during the winter transfer window.”

Good move?

Leeds have only won thrice in 18 Premier League games so far, and there is no denying that they need to strengthen in the final third.

They have averaged a goal per game, and that is very poor for a side that would love to hold on to their top-flight status at the end of the campaign.

Elmas has six goals in 12 starts across all competitions for Napoli so far this term and did bag four goals and two assists in 10 World Cup qualifiers for his country.

Leeds definitely could do with such a finisher, and their over-reliance on Raphinha for the goals has not been very helpful.

The Brazilian forward has bagged eight goals and assisted another one out of the 18 that the west Yorkshire giants have scored this season, and they need someone to help him.

With Borussia Dortmund in the race, landing Elmas could prove very difficult for Leeds, though, as it is only ideal if he prefers the Bundesliga giants to a struggling side.

Nevertheless, nothing can be ruled out, and landing the Napoli man would come as a massive boost for them.

The Whites have suffered a lot of injuries so far, and their attack has not been spared, with Rodrigo, Patrick Bamford and Dan James unavailable for selection right now, while Jack Harrison limped out of their last game.

In other Leeds United news, Whites chiefs recently jetted out of the UK for talks.
