Leeds striker target tells PL side he wants to stay with them, at least until summer – report
It’s not easy to land a quality striker in January and the list of possible replacements for Eddie Nektiah at Leeds United is shrinking.
After Rhian Brewster signed for Swansea, it looks like the latest to drop off the shortlist is Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp who, according to the Mirror, has told his manager he wants to stay.
Sharp was an alternative target for Leeds if they couldn’t land Che Adams, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, and manager Chris Wilder had said the choice would be left to the striker. If he wanted to leave Wilder wouldn’t stand in his way.
Talking on The Phil Hay Show on Thursday, Hay said, “They do like Billy Sharp and it’s all getting a bit weird at Bramall Lane, given you’ve got a lifelong Sheffield United fan, helped get them promoted last season and all of a sudden it feels like it’s getting a bit out of shape between him and Chris Wilder.
“To the extent that they’re dancing around avoiding being the one who says either I want to leave, or you can go. Wilder said it’s up to Sharp.”
Well, according to the Mirror, the dance is over and Sharp has said that he wants to stay, at least until the summer.
Given that Adams is still the number one target, that’s not a huge blow for Leeds and we’d definitely prefer to see them sign a striker who has a future in the Premier League.
At 33-years-old, that’s not Sharp.
However, if he was Plan B, Leeds now need a Plan C and there are less than three weeks left in the window.
We’d really like to see some concrete progress very soon.
