Leeds move ruled out for PL 23-year-old following club update – report
Leeds United linked defender Fikayo Tomori will not be allowed to leave Chelsea this month, according to The Sun.
The Whites have been linked with a move for the England international with BBC Sport recently claiming that Elland Road is the likeliest destination for Tomori.
However, The Sun report that circumstances have now changed at Chelsea and Tomori will not be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge as he is needed by Frank Lampard.
Central defender Andreas Christensen has suffered a knee injury and Chelsea are concerned that he could be sidelined for a significant amount of time.
This means that Tomori is required at Stamford Bridge to provide defensive cover and this effectively rules out a potential move to Leeds.
Newcastle United were also interested in Tomori’s services, as per The Sun, but their report claims that Tomori will be needed in the first team for the foreseeable future.
This rules out any Leeds move for Tomori amid talk that the club may not attempt to sign any first-team players this month.
On Wednesday, Sky Sports reported that it is unlikely that Leeds will be active in the January transfer window which is slightly surprising considering the club’s injury woes.
Another defensive injury could be a serious blow for the Whites, especially if it is the versatile Luke Ayling who is sidelined for a significant amount of time.
Of course, Liam Cooper and Robin Koch will be back available in time but it would be slightly naive for the club to not bring in at least one defender this month, even on loan.
Only West Brom have conceded more Premier League goals than this makeshift defence this season and even a loan player brought in for back up would help to ease the burden on our struggling defenders.
