Elland Road 'likeliest' destination for Leeds linked PL defender - BBC
Leeds United is the likeliest destination for out of favour Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori this January, according to BBC Sport.
An earlier report from Simon Johnson of The Athletic claimed that Tomori is being lined up to leave Frank Lampard’s side during the January transfer window.
Tomori has only made three competitive appearances for Chelsea this season after falling out of favour with Blues boss Frank Lampard.
BBC Sport now lists Leeds as the only club interested in the England international and claim that Elland Road is the ‘likeliest’ destination for the 23-year-old.
Any move for Tomori would likely be a loan deal as Tomori still has bags of potential and Chelsea want the defender to rediscover his form away from Stamford Bridge, per The Athletic’s report.
However, that same report also claims that Tomori may push for a permanent move after growing tired of not starting regularly for Chelsea.
Leeds need defensive cover as this is an area of the pitch that has been hit badly by injuries this season.
Robin Koch and Liam Cooper remain on the sidelines with full-back Luke Ayling deputising as a makeshift centre half.
Ayling has impressed but he is better in his natural position so signing defensive cover needs to be a priority for Marcelo Bielsa this month.
Tomori impressed in the early stages of last season as he became a key man in Lampard’s Chelsea defence.
He has suffered a quick fall from grace however with the 23-year-old only trusted to start matches in the Carabao Cup this season.
We have seen how good Tomori can be on his day and given regular football he may improve and reach those impressive levels again.
Doubts remain over Tomori’s fitness after barely playing this season but there will be fewer defenders available this January who are better than Tomori on his day.
