Leeds manager Bielsa praises 'unconditional' support of fans before match v Burnley

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has praised supporters for their ongoing support ahead of the club’s first game of 2022 against Burnley on Sunday.

The Argentinian was quoted on Leeds’ official Twitter account as he acknowledged what it means to have strong fan support during difficult times.

Bielsa was keen to thank the Elland Road faithful as the club look to make a bright start to the New Year. The club face Burnley on Sunday 2 January as they aim for a victory against a weakened Clarets team to push them up the table.

“Every time, they have always been an element that improves and pushes on the team to be in a better state and mood,” said Bielsa.

“The support the Leeds fans have for the team is unconditional.”

Vital support

Bielsa is right to credit the Leeds supporters for helping the club through a difficult time.

The fans have been ever present in song at home and away games and have undoubtedly helped guide the team through a difficult patch of injury problems and COVID-related postponements.

Expectations on Bielsa are very high given his reputation and it appears most supporters are still quick to jump to his defence despite a drop-off in results this season.

The fans, Bielsa and Orta alike will be hopeful that the fans’ ceaseless support and the return of injured stars will bring yet more positive energy to Elland Road in the New Year.

With Leeds’ fixture schedule disrupted due to COVID-19 cases amongst players and staff, new regulations in England will hopefully see a decline in cases and a more stable routine for Leeds as a club.

It is now to be seen whether Orta and Bielsa work together to bring new names in throughout January in order to bolster the squad and push the club towards mid-table in the latter half of an exhilarating Premier League campaign.
