Marcelo Bielsa confirms Leeds United team news v Burnley as four players return
Junior Firpo, Daniel James, Diego Llorente and Jack Harrison are available once again for Leeds United when they take on Burnley at Elland Road on Sunday, Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed.
Speaking to the media on Friday, as shown on Leeds’ Twitter account, Bielsa offered a glimpse of hope when it comes to his injury crisis, with four key players all set to return.
Bielsa said: “For the following game, we recovered Junior, James, Llorente, [Robin] Koch had already returned and Harrison also, who basically in the last game didn’t play as he picked up an injury as soon as the game started. He’s also recovered.”
Back at it
After seeing two matches postponed over the Christmas period, Leeds have had the perfect opportunity to rest up, recover and prepare for this showdown against Burnley.
Sean Dyche’s side played on Thursday night and lost 3-1 to Manchester United so they shouldn’t be anywhere near as well-rested as Bielsa’s players ahead of the clash at Elland Road this weekend.
Leeds are five points ahead of Burnley in the Premier League standings with the Clarets sitting 18th after 16 matches – two fewer than what Leeds have played.
It’s imperative that Bielsa oversees a win against the Lancashire club to ensure that when they use those games in hand, they do not catch up and draw us into that relegation scrap.
With 20 games left to play for Bielsa and his men, it’s important that we start to move away from the drop zone and show that we are capable of a mid-table finish.
That should be the aim now and it would be a great achievement considering the injury issues we’ve had this season.
Let’s hope that we can revive our form and start shooting up the table from Sunday onwards.
