Leeds man Niall Huggins edging close to Blackburn Rovers move
Blackburn Rovers are favourites in the race to sign Leeds United left-back Niall Huggins permanently, according to Football League World.
Swansea City and Coventry City are also interested in signing the 20-year-old, and while the Lancashire side’s transfer embargo has held up a deal for him, manager Tony Mowbray is hoping it would be lifted soon.
Leeds have allowed the trio of Leif Davis, Ryan Edmondson and Alfie McCalmont to leave on loan, and the left-back could also be joining them in a permanent exit despite agreeing a new two-and-a-half year deal last December [Leeds official website].
Another under-23s departure?
Davis has joined Bournemouth on an initial season-long loan with a view to a permanent transfer, while Edmondson and McCalmont have joined Fleetwood Town and Morecambe respectively.
The trio alongside Huggins are all seen as players for the future, but Davis and the left-back could be off permanently.
The youngster played a key role to help our under-23s secure promotion to the Premier League 2 Division 1, featuring in 17 games and weighing in with two goals and one assist.
Huggins made just one Premier League appearance last season, coming off the bench to replace Ezgjan Alioski and make his debut during a 4-2 defeat at Arsenal in February.
His development would be stunted should he remain at Leeds and playing for the youth team, but a move away to the Championship would help boost his growth.
We would prefer a temporary exit as opposed to a permanent one, but it appears Leeds have made him available for sale, giving Blackburn and co a chance to land him.
