Michael Ball: Leeds United are the main suitors for Ryan Kent
Michael Ball has claimed Leeds United are the main suitors for Rangers attacking midfielder Ryan Kent this summer.
According to GIVEMESPORT, the Elland Road outfit plan to return with an improved bid for the 24-year-old as they look to strengthen their squad for a European push.
The Scottish Sun claimed in April that Leeds may have to table a £15million bid to get Kent after failing with an £11million offer last summer.
It remains to be seen whether the Yorkshire side are readying a bid for the Liverpool academy graduate, but Ball believes they are the main contenders for his signature.
“I think Leeds are the main suitors right now for Ryan Kent,” the former Bears full-back told Transfer Tavern.
“Since he came to the club, it was quite a surprise the amount of money Rangers paid for Ryan, but he’s paid that back in an abundance and the fans really like him.”
Move on the cards?
Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa is a fan of the winger, with The Athletic journalist Phil Hay writing on their website this morning : “Don’t discount Ryan Kent at Rangers either. That interest goes back a long way.”
Clearly, the frequent rumours are not all fictional, and the Whites are bound to table another bid sooner or later from the look of things.
We really could do with more quality options at the front without a doubt, and Kent is a player capable of giving any of our attackers a run for their money.
The Englishman finished last season with 13 goals and 15 assists across all competitions, and Bielsa would have been impressed.
Luring him away from Ibrox could be a tough task, though, especially if Steven Gerrard’s side book a place in the group stages of the Champions League.
Kent would surely relish the chance to play in such a competition, and Leeds may have to wait till next summer.
Rangers were dealt a blow in the first-leg of their third qualifying round against Malmo last night, losing 2-1 in Sweden, and they have to get a result next week to progress to the play-offs round.
It could all come down to that game as Leeds look to make a move.
