Leeds links with Marco Asensio shocks Phil Hay
Leeds United have been linked with Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio this week as they hunt for a new attacker.
Phil Hay has responded to those links with shock, insisting that it would be surprising if that ever happened.
The Athletic journalist continued and named Dan James, Noa Lang and Ryan Kent as more realistic options.

Writing in his Athletic mailbag on Wednesday morning, Hay shared his verdict on the hunt for a winger at Elland Road.
“The door to a new winger has been left open this summer but Asensio? I’d be very surprised,” he wrote
“The links to Dan James and Noa Lang are far more realistic, assuming Leeds take the plunge and buy another wide player.
“Don’t discount Ryan Kent at Rangers either. That interest goes back a long way.”

Shock.
Fichajes reported the initial interest from Leeds in Asensio, but they described it as a plan B for Wolves attacker Adama Traore.
Given those links have also been rubbished this week, it appears unlikely that either of those names will arrive this month.
All three alternative names are interesting, and would all offer Leeds one thing; bucketloads of pace moving forward.
It is hard to see Kent leaving Rangers but after they lost to Malmo in the first leg of their Champions League qualifiers last night, it could happen.
Should the Swedish side complete the job in Glasgow next week, that could open the door to the possibility of a deal being worked out.
The pursuit of a winger was always going to go down to the wire, and playing the long game could help a deal for Kent be worked out.
