Lee Bowyer talks up potential of Leeds United academy star Amari Miller
Lee Bowyer insists he could see the potential of Amari Miller at Birmingham City before his £1million move to Leeds United.
Jesse Marsch has already brought through a number of exciting youngsters at Leeds United, with Joe Gelhardt, Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville all thriving under the American.
According to Bowyer, Marsch might want to target 20-year-old Miller as his next long-term project. The winger came through the Birmingham academy under Bowyer before making a move to Elland Road in 2021.
“He was a 17-year-old, under difficult circumstances I still gave him a few minutes here and there. I could see the potential he had.
“That summer we sold him to Leeds, I’d only been there five minutes. They sold him and brought £1million into the club, or whatever it was.”
Leeds boast an incredibly exciting academy, with many stars already progressing to the first team. Summerville’s impressive performance this season has justified the club’s focus on youth.
Miller could be the next to come through Leeds’ conveyor belt of young talent. He’s yet to make a first-team appearance for the Whites but has been a prominent part of the Under-23s team.
With a hectic schedule in the second half of the season, there’s a good chance Miller could appear once or twice in Marsch’s matchday squad.
Luis Sinisterra, Jack Harrison and even Brenden Aaronson have been playing out wide for Leeds this season, but if Marsch is eager to give any of them a rest then it could open up a spot on the bench for Miller.
Bowyer clearly seems to be a big fan of the Birmingham-born winner, only time will tell if he catches Marsch’s eye too.
