‘Largest commercial deal in club’s history’ – Leeds new front-of-shirt sponsor confirmed
It’s been confirmed that betting company SBOTOP is going to be the new front-of-shirt sponsor for Leeds United.
In a story on Manx Radio, it’s said that the multi-year deal is the “biggest commercial deal in Leeds football history.”
The report claims that Leeds have signed a deal with Celton Manx and its sports betting brand is the “club’s principal sponsor”.
The report reads: “In the largest commercial deal in the club’s history, the SBOTOP logo will feature on the front of the white shirt from the start of the new Premier League season.”
Celton Manx/SBOTOP executive director Bill Mummery confirmed the deal in an interview and said he’s “thrilled” to hook up with Leeds.
He said, “It’s not been easy in this instance because of CV-19 and the inability to meet face-to-face, and when you’re doing very high-value multi-million-pound deals, it is something of a disadvantage, you’ve not met the people before, you’ve not worked with them. It is something of a disadvantage to do that over Zoom.”
Bet on Leeds
Leeds fans thought they were getting rid of betting companies when 32Red’s deal ended but it looks like sports betting isn’t going anywhere from the game.
There are murmurings from politicians but Leeds isn’t the only side with a big link-up with sports betting companies and they won’t be the last.
The story was seemingly leaked ahead of the official announcement by Leeds that followed quickly after.
SBOTOP is an Asian sports betting site with a strong focus on Asian Handicap markets.
It’s slightly disappointing – we were hoping for a real blue-chip company – but it’s not entirely surprising.
Money talks and the sports betting industry is worth billions.
If Andrea Radrizzani uses his share of it in the right way then we’ll excuse the club.
