Kieran Maguire: Leeds United among top 20 in Premier League history for losses made

Leeds United have one of the worst financial records since the start of the Premier League era, according to finance expert Kieran Maguire.

The Whites are the 18th worst team in terms of losses made with their £28million pre-tax figures.

As many would expect, Manchester City and Chelsea are the top two teams while the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal do not make the list.

Via his personal Twitter account, Maguire wrote, “Premier League Top 20 loss before tax making clubs since its inception in 1992-93.”

Bad model?

Despite being one of the biggest teams in the land and not being in the top flight for 18 years, Leeds are right there among the top 20.

This does not make for good reading and hopefully, the club have now hired the right people to stop this from happening.

In the year the Whites got promoted, everyone waxed lyrical over how well run the club was and they even backed Marcelo Bielsa thoroughly in that window.

However, last summer exposed the flaws behind the scenes at Elland Road and there need to be things done differently in order for Leeds to become a force again.

Relegation would have been devastating for the club and they would’ve had to scrap up their model and build back better.

Now, they’ve got an easier opportunity for doing things correctly and we do expect some tangible progress in the coming years.

In other Leeds United news, Fabrizio Romano has shared if a ‘Sensational’ defensive midfielder has agreed terms for an Elland Road switch and become the club’s fourth summer signing.
