Kieran Maguire: Leeds hoping to resolve Jean-Kevin Augustin saga in 2022

Kieran Maguire has shared that Leeds United are hoping to have the Jean-Kevin Augustin saga wrapped up early in 2022.

FIFA ruled earlier this year that the Whites had to pay the £18million owed to RB Leipzig despite the permanent move not going through after promotion.

Leeds appealed that decision, and it is currently with the Courts of Arbitration for Sport, who are still making their decision.

Speaking on The Price of Football Podcast, Maguire shared the latest on what he has heard on the ongoing controversy.

“Leeds and RB Leipzig are treating him as a commodity,” he said.

“So, Leeds have appealed in respect of the FIFA ruling so it is now going to go to CAS, I think they are hoping to resolve the matter early in 2022.

“Our silver-tongued friends, as you can imagine, will be sharpening their knives and looking at their hourly rates chart with glee as they come to deal with this matter.”

How is this still going on?

This is a saga that has dragged on for far too long, but it is good to see the likes of Andrea Radrizzani fighting our corner.

In what world should the club be forced to splash the cash on a player that made no impact on our promotion, and wasn’t even available for action after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leeds’ initial argument to FIFA was that they earned promotion later than May where the clause came into play, with the season going on for two months longer.

Given that FIFA ruled in favour of RB Leipzig, the odds are in their favour at this stage but given his continued struggles at Nantes, CAS could hopefully come to a different outcome.

This has dragged on for far too long, and fingers crossed it can have a positive outcome and that fee isn’t demanded.
