Keith Hackett hits back as Dermot Gallagher sits on fence over Scott McTominay in Leeds clash v Manchester United

Keith Hackett has hit back after Dermot Gallagher insisted that Scott McTominay did not deserve to be sent off for Manchester United against Leeds.

The ex-Premier League referee admitted that Gallagher has picked up a reputation for “fence-sitting” in his opinions.

Gallagher claimed on Sky Sports that it was a myth that McTominay deserved another yellow despite committing numerous fouls.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Hackett hit back after “weak” officiating was being promoted.

“He should have been dismissed without question,” he said.

“Dermot needs to be honest with his opinion. He has gained a reputation for fence-sitting. Weak officiating should not be promoted.”

Weak.

Paul Tierney completed failed in his duty of keeping control, and let things get far too wild on Sunday afternoon.

The Manchester United players were embarrassing and consistently got in the officials’ ears whenever something happened.

As for McTominay, he nearly hit double figures for fouls and wasn’t even warned, never mind nearly sent off.

Consistency in the Premier League is becoming worst every week, and then we have Gallagher coming on Sky Sports days after and just agreeing with everything that happens.

It is a waste of a segment, and if he can’t see that McTominay deserved red, then why is he being asked?

Hackett was spot on, it was a simple red card and it should have been spotted, it wasn’t, so now we have to move on.
