Kalvin Phillips told to ‘jump’ at chance to join Leeds United after West Ham United incident

Kalvin Phillips should “jump” at the chance to re-sign for Leeds United this summer after what’s happened in his loan spell at West Ham, according to Martin Hardy.

Writing on The Times website on Sunday (31 March), the journalist said the England international will be linked with a return this summer to Elland Road, where he was “loved” following his previous exploits at the club.

He added that the 28-year-old’s “thoughtless gesture” on the Hammers bus, where he stuck his middle finger up at fans criticising him following the defeat against Newcastle United on Saturday (30 March), proved that the midfielder wants to be “loved” instead of “loathed”.

“In the summer he will be linked with Leeds, his hometown club, where he was loved,” said Hardy. “He should jump at the move if it can be done.

“Phillips is a player who wants to be loved, not loathed, as his thoughtless gesture on the West Ham bus proved.”

Could Kalvin Phillips re-sign for Leeds United?

It certainly isn’t out of the question that Phillips could return to Leeds if the club manage to secure promotion back to the Premier League this season.

It seems very likely that Manchester City will look to cash in on the midfielder and it’s unlikely West Ham will try and make his loan deal a permanent one.

The Englishman has had a torrid time of it since joining the Hammers in January and his gesture after the Newcastle game just showed where his head is currently at.

The Sun reported on Sunday that the Whites believe a bid in the region of £30million could persuade the Citizens into doing business this summer.

But the West Yorkshire club have to focus on getting the job done this season first as they face a few massive weeks in their bid to secure promotion at Elland Road.
