Kalvin Phillips set to leave Leeds United with Newcastle among suitors
Kalvin Phillips is reportedly set to leave Leeds United in the summer, amid growing interest from a number of Premier League sides.
According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle are prepared to rival Aston Villa over the signing of the 26-year-old.
West Ham were also keen on securing his services in January and saw a £55million bid rejected.
Given Newcastle and Everton’s billionaire owners, there’s no surprise that they’re linked with a move for Phillips.
The Englishman is Leeds’ most valuable asset along with Raphinha and both are unlikely to go on the cheap.
But the fact that Phillips seems set to leave Leeds in the summer may have come as a shock for fans.
He has been in contract talks for a while and the expectation was that he would put pen to paper on a new deal.
This would protect the Whites in the transfer window so clubs couldn’t sign him on the cheap.
We’re hoping that he reconsiders his decision because it will be hard to imagine life without Marcelo Bielsa as well as Phillips.
Both of them have personified what it means to be Leeds United and there will be a massive void if and when the Englishman leaves.
There were hopes that he would stay under Bielsa but things could be different with Jesse Marsh in charge and it remains to be seen what happens.
In other Leeds United news, Steve McManaman claims that a Whites man has already lost the trust of fans after what happened this week.
