Junior Firpo reacts as Leeds United and Real Betis set up friendly clash
Leeds United will face La Liga outfit Real Betis in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, July 31 at Loughborough University.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side will be coming up against the former club of summer signing Junior Firpo, and the left-back cannot wait to be reunited with some of his old friends.
The 25-year-old Spaniard is delighted with the news and has taken to his personal Twitter account:
High-profile clash
While Betis are not as big as Barcelona, Real Madrid and reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid, Leeds should expect a tough encounter when they come up against Manuel Pellegrini’s men.
They are playing in the Europa League next season having finished last season in sixth place in the Spanish top-flight table, and they boast of the likes of French playmaker Nabil Fekir, Spanish attacking midfielder Borja Iglesias and Portuguese midfield powerhouse William Carvalho.
We should be expecting a stern test given Betis quality, and Firpo will be glad to show his former team what he is capable of doing after leaving them to join Barcelona in the summer of 2019.
He graduated from their academy before featuring for the B-team and first-team for five seasons.
Leeds will be facing Guiseley (July 27), Blackburn Rovers (July 28) and Fleetwood Town (July 30) before the Betis clash, and we will be playing against Eredivisie giants Ajax at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Wednesday, August 4.
They are the perfect friendly matches for us ahead of the first game of the new Premier League campaign against Manchester United on August 14 at Old Trafford, and the boys will be eager to impress Bielsa.
