Leeds United feel Kristoffer Klaesson could challenge Illan Meslier

Leeds United want Valerenga goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson, but they face stiff competition for him, according to The Mirror journalist David Anderson.

The Elland Road outfit want the 20-year-old as a replacement for Kiko Casilla and they believe he can provide Illan Meslier with a fierce challenge for the starting berth.

However, they face competition for the Norwegian from a fellow Premier League club and another from the La Liga.

Anderson posted the transfer update on his personal Twitter account this afternoon:

Great choice

Meslier became the undisputed number 1 the moment he replaced Casilla in goal, and bringing in a capable competition will definitely do him a lot of good.

The 21-year-old needs someone to keep him constantly on his toes and breathing down his neck, and Leeds reckon Klaesson could be the perfect man for the job.

The Norwegian youth international already has 54 league appearances for Valerenga despite his age, and we believe it speaks volumes.

The Whites first made enquiries about the 6ft 3in youngster in 2019 [YEP], and with his contract running out in December 2022, the Eliteserien outfit could be keen to sell this summer.

Not much is known about Klaesson, but the fact that he is attracting two Premier League clubs and a Spanish top-flight side means something.

Head coach Marcelo Bielsa would have been left impressed with what he has seen before Leeds can decide he can give the Frenchman a run for his money, and we are hoping that the club can win the race for his signature in the coming days.
