Julen Lopetegui 'absolutely raging' as Leeds United vs Wolves chaos baffles BT Sport panel, Chris Sutton hails great TV
The final minutes of a wild Leeds United win at Wolves left Julen Lopetegui “absolutely raging” as Chris Sutton hailed “great telly” in the BT Sport studio.
Rodrigo added a wonderfully-taken late fourth goal in stoppage time at Molineux, but a VAR review amid furious protests from the home manager saw confusion reign at the end of a game that had everything.
The Spaniard felt there had been a foul on Adama Traore, and none of the watching BT pundits could tell if the goal had been given or even if the game had ended or not, as the Whites secured a massive win and Sutton praised the drama.
Live on BT Sport Score (18 March, 4.57pm) the entire panel were transfixed by the action in the Whites game as VAR confused matters, and the Wolves boss exploded with fury.
As the goal appeared to be given James Horncastle praised “great refereeing” while Jules Breach couldn’t work out if the full-time whistle had already been blown.
Sutton and Glenn Hoddle then thought a free-kick had been given and the goal disallowed, leading Michael Brown to reply: “‘Decision: Goal. No foul’. It says on the screen. Is that wrong? We’ll soon see, Adama Traore’s got his mouth open…”

“Great telly, this,” Sutton called out. Breach added: “Brilliant, this, brilliant. It even said on screen that it was full time and it wasn’t.”
She went on: “We’re still in play at Molineux, the game is carrying on, it is 4-2 to Leeds. They probably have won it… Lopetegui absolutely raging.”

Ultimately all the matters was a vital three points but the entertainment value from the game, exactly a year after Leeds United came out on top 3-2 in a similarly wild affair, was huge.
Jack Harrison’s early opener gave way to a Wolves onslaught that somehow didn’t bring an equaliser, as Max Wober played out of his skin and Illan Meslier held firm.
Luke Ayling was having a nightmare in defence, but it was the veteran full-back who then popped up completely unmarked to score a scruffy header just after the break, with his first goal since the winner 12 months ago and a recreation of that famous celebration.
Willy Gnonto was surprisingly again taken off early, and yet the substitute Rasmus Kristensen immediately made it 3-0 in a move that nobody saw coming.
Wolves then mounted a comeback with a 40 yard lob from Jonny and a deflected Matheus Cunha effort, before the former was sent off for a horrendous challenge on Ayling.
And still there was time for Rodrigo to add a fourth amid equal bafflement and anger from those watching on, and the home side then got another red card for a substitute amid protests at the ultimate decision to allow the goal.
It was breathless action that Whites fans will come away from delighted and leave Lopetegui fuming, but this survival fight certainly has legs now.
